The Most Elite Partnering in Padel History - Bela & Diaz
Juan Lebron and Ale Galan are currently unstoppable and on the way to set records if their rate of winning continues, but as we see the sport growing at an astronomical rate, it's hard to keep track of what's happening and more importantly what has happened in the past.
Today's players, play a completely different level of padel as to what we saw 15 years ago.
Which we think it's a good idea to take a trip into the past and explore the most impressive partnership in Padel history.
The success story of Juan and Bela
Both Argentinians were level headed as number one for almost 13 years, from 2001 and 2014. Their partnership won them 170 of the 190 finals they played, winning 22 consecutive tournaments and a record of 21 months undefeated.
Both players have given their reason as to why this partnership was so successful.
Professionalism
This partnership didn't come about due to a friendship between the two. It was actually Juan Martin who got in contact with Bela. At this stage, Bela was showing an incredible amount of potential and making waves in the padel world.
He saw Bela as a player that had a level of ambition that was rarely seen, and this led to them forming an alliance in order to win tournaments in the short term.
Bela, who wasn't quite yet the world number 1, took Diaz up on his offer. naturally, as Diaz was one of Bela's idols and at the time considered to be the best player in the world.
The alliance was then formed, soon after... need I say more?
When the two players were asked for the reason behind their victories over the 13 years, they emphasized that respect and professionalism were to key elements they tried to maintain throughout their games until the very end of the iconic partnership.
Another aspect they highlighted was physical preparation. Throughout their time together, they had no serious injuries and that is the key to their collective success.
Injury to one directly damages the other and both have been able to maintain a level of excellence without damaging their physiques.
Despite the wear and tear of the years, the relationship between Juan Martín Díaz and Fernando Belasteguín has remained cordial. It was not friendship that united them, but a professional relationship that they were able to maintain by setting rules based on respect and good physical preparation.
The more time passes, the more the legacy of these two legends is enhanced, making them a true Myth for fans of the sport.
